起源于1839年的英语词汇列表

matte(n.2)
在冶金学中,“铜或其他矿石冶炼的不纯和未完成的产品”,1839年,来自法语 matte,源自形容词的意思是“暗淡的,昏暗的”(参见 mat(形容词))。

mentation(n.)
-
midget(n.)
1839年,作为一种小型咬人昆虫,源自 midge,可能带有 -et 的小型后缀,美国英语。
Dr. Webster is in error in saying the word "midge" is "not in use" at the present day. In the neighboring Green mountain districts, one or more most annoying species of Simulium that there abound, are daily designated in common conversation as the midges, or, as the name is often corrupted, the midgets. From Dr. Harris' treatise it appears that the same name is in popular use for the same insects in Maine. The term is limited in this country, we believe, exclusively to those minute insects, smaller than the musketoe, which suck the blood of other animals. ["Transactions of the New-York State Agricultural Society," vol. vi, Albany, 1847]
-
mollycoddle(v.)
同时也在 molly-coddle,1839年(隐含于 mollycoddling ),指“过度被宠坏的,过分讲究的,柔弱的男子”,最早见于一个名词(1828年),意为“过于受宠的,讲究的,柔弱的男性”,源于 Mary 中的昵称(来自 Molly ),此词自至少1707年起被贬低地用来指“懦弱的人,柔弱的男人”(见 molly (n.1)) + coddle (q.v.)。相关词汇: Mollycoddled。
All his pursuits had been sedentary; for he never went out but with his mother. He was not allowed to stroll about the farm with his father, lest he should get his clothes dirty and his feet wet. In short, he was what Giles Darman pronounced him to be—"a little mollycoddle." ["Babbington Droneham," Hood's Magazine, March 1844]
他所有的追求都是久坐的。因为他从不和他的父亲一起在农场闲逛,以免让自己的衣服弄脏,脚湿。总之,他像吉尔斯·达曼所说的那样,是一个“小胆小鬼”。【《胡德杂志》,1844年3月,巴宾顿·德朗汉姆】

-
necropsy(n.)
"尸体解剖",1839年,源自 necro- "死亡,尸体" + opsis "一种视觉"(源自 PIE 词根 *okw- "看见")。作为动词,记录于1889年。备选的 necroscopy 可追溯到1820年。
This term [necroscopy] was first proposed by M. Vaidy (late of Paris, now of Lille). A single term is desirable to express the inspection of the dead body; and the one in question will form an euphonic adjective and adverb — as necroscopic, necroscopical — which adds to the conveniences. — Its derivation is evident (nekros, a corpse' and skopeo, to inspect.) [William Hutchinson, footnote in "Proëmium to the Fifty-Third Volume of The London Medical and Physical Journal," 1820]
这个术语[necroscopy]首次由 M. Vaidy(巴黎的前任,现居里尔)提出。需要一个单一的术语来表达 the inspection of the dead body; 而这个问题中的术语将形成一个音韵上的形容词和副词,如 necroscopic, necroscopical ,这增加了方便性。——它的词源是明显的(nekros,尸体'和 skopeo,检查)。[William Hutchinson,在"伦敦医学和物理杂志第53卷的序言"中的脚注,1820年]
