horrid（adj.）
15世纪初，“多毛的，毛茸茸的，刺状的”，源自拉丁语 horridus “多刺的，刺状的，粗糙的，可怕的，粗鲁的，野蛮的，未经修饰的”，源自 horrere “因恐惧而发抖，发抖”（见 horror）。意思“可怕的，引起恐惧的”始于1600年左右。17世纪，意思减弱为“不愉快的，令人反感的”。
