derecho（n.）
1888年，指由下击暴风群产生的对流风，来自美国西班牙语 derecho “直接，笔直”，也指“正确，正义”，来自古西班牙语 diestro，来自拉丁语 directus “直的”， dirigere “使直”，来自 dis- “分开”（见 dis-) + regere “指导，引导，保持直线”（来自 PIE 词根 *reg- “沿直线移动”）。
When, years ago, I first called public attention to this kind of straight blows peculiar to Iowa prairies in summer, I named them provisorily Iowa squalls. The term derecho, coined from the Spanish in analogy with the term tornado, and expressing the main feature of a straight blow, has been chosen to bring out the contrast with the tornado or whirl-wind to avoid further confusion of these two different storms.
