tea-gown(n.)
"loose easy gown in which to take afternoon tea at home," from tea + gown. Attested from 1878, in a widely reprinted article, credited to the London World, condemning them as a scandalous novelty:
Ladies who a few years ago would have considered the idea appalling calmly array themselves in the glorified dressing robe known as the "tea gown" and proceed to display themselves to the eyes of their admirers.
