restroom（n.）
1887年，“休息和安静的房间”（在工作场所、公共建筑等）也是 rest room， rest-room，请参见 rest（n.1）和 room（n.）. 因为这些房间常常后来有（或需要有）附属的洗手间，到了1930年代，这个词汇成为“盥洗室、厕所”的委婉说法。
