14世纪末,源自12世纪的古法语 eloquence,源自拉丁语 eloquentia,源自 eloquentem(主格 eloquens)的"雄辩",现在分词形式 eloqui 的"说出",源自 ex 的"出"(参见 ex-),加上 loqui 的"说"(源自 PIE 词根 *tolkw- 的"说")。同样的意思在14世纪中叶已经存在了 eloquency
